We Supply the Best Earth Auger Available

Gardening and landscaping is a therapeutic exercise until it requires a massive physical effort to dig holes in the ground. Instead of using primitive methods to break through the soil, you can use an earth auger which allows you to loosen the soil and prepare it for gardening. An auger is an earth drill that quickly and efficiently digs into the soil to create the space you require for landscaping and gardening. DiggerBit supplies auger drill bits that attach to your drill for planting bulbs, flowers, bare-root trees and shrubs. However, you can also use these earth drills to aerate your lawn, dig post holes and general tilling of the ground.

Benefits of an Auger Earth Drill

Owning an auger earth drill is handy for any avid gardener, landscaper or general groundworks. Similar to how the industrialisation of specific sectors helped to improve production output, the auger simplifies working with the soil and is a wise addition to your shed of gardening tools.

  • Manually digging holes for sowing seeds or planting bulbs is time-consuming and laborious. When you attach an auger to your drill, it speeds up the process of digging holes in the soil, requiring seconds as opposed to the time it takes using a hand trowel. As a result, your production increases with a reduced effort on your part.
  • It’s normal for the human body to suffer from exhaustion when physically digging the soil for gardening. The hands and back endure unnecessary strain requiring regular breaks. Furthermore, those with pre-existing conditions such as arthritis struggle to maintain the physical intensity that digging holes requires. However, when you use an earth auger, you eliminate the physical pain of manual labour.
  • Avid gardeners know that plants thrive when planted in holes of an ideal size. It encourages the roots to grow and spread evenly. You can achieve this quickly with the use of an auger to drill through the soil and dig holes that are the correct size and length.

Tips to Maintain an Earth Drill in Australia

As with any tool, you have to maintain it to ensure it lasts a long time and carries out its tasks efficiently. However, gardeners and landscapers often overlook auger maintenance because of its simplicity. Following these tips will keep your auger in operational condition for longer.

  • The initial step to maintaining your auger is to inspect the blades thoroughly. Examine them carefully and ensure they’re not bent or have become slightly detached from the shaft. If you catch the problem early, there is a possibility of repairing the blade through re-welding.
  • Always ensure you fit the auger securely to the drill. Use the drill key to tighten the chuck on the auger’s hex drive. Following this practice prevents rounded edges on the hex drive of the auger. However, if you find that the auger’s hex drive is worn, you probably didn’t secure the auger correctly to the drill.
  • After using your auger, it’s imperative that you wipe away the soil and debris and store it away from moisture. If you have to, you can wash the blades but ensure you completely dry it to prevent rusting. Furthermore, before you store the auger away for the off-season, you can apply mineral machine oil to the surface of the auger’s blades.
